Designing Your Logo

When you design a logo for your brand name you will need to consider how it will look on all your marketing materials and also on the labels in your clothes or on your packaging. It is really important to make sure customers can easily read your name and recognise it.

The logo needs to create the right impression and have longevity, as you will use it as your mark for years to come. You need to consider how your customer will perceive the logo and the types of symbols, fonts and colours they connect and want to be associated with. Imagine in the future you might choose to put your logo on a piece of clothing in the way that Gucci, Nike or Supreme do — would it have impact? Would your customer want to walk around with your logo on their shirt or jacket?

It is possible to design a logo yourself but I would recommend commissioning a designer or using a specialist agency, as it is such an important element of your brand that you need to get it right. If you are going to commission someone to design the logo for you, start to put a mood board together which includes examples of your competitor’s logos and other examples of ones you love. Also ensure you write a full brief explaining what your product is, the price point, a description of your customer and target market and an explanation of your brand values.
